My Story
Throughout my life, my parents encouraged my siblings and me to explore the world.
In addition to being an exchange student to Brazil, my mother was the liaison for a local exchange student program, AFS, for over 20 years. Through her experiences, I was fortunate to meet students from around the world year after year. The languages and cultures of other people always fascinated me and I wanted to learn as much as I could about them.
The summer after my 7th grade year, I made my first "exchange trip" to my mom's Brazilian host family's home. I was immediately enamored with Brazilian Portuguese and Brazilian culture. This experience taught me the importance of being open to other cultures and languages, and that immersing oneself in another culture can be an invaluable learning experience.
Upon returning to Pine Richland, I chose to study a similar foreign language, Spanish. Learning Spanish has had similar benefits to learning Brazilian Portuguese. It has given me the opportunity to better understand my own culture and language, and to gain an appreciation for the diversity of cultures around the world.
Having started learning Spanish at the age of thirteen, I have continued to learn it ever since. I graduated from PSU with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish language and a Minor in Russian language. I taught English in Spain for two years after graduating from college. In the following years, I also held several bilingual positions in Pittsburgh.
I earned my Master's degree in Teaching from CALU in 2017. I am now a certified Spanish teacher and I am passionate about teaching the language.
I believe that all students can benefit from learning a second language and I am committed to providing an engaging and stimulating learning environment for them. My teaching style is interactive and engaging, and I strive to create a setting where students feel comfortable and confident. I focus on real-world applications of the language, and I use a variety of teaching strategies to ensure that students are able to learn Spanish effectively.
At Fluent Minds we strive for diversity and even though we currently only have Spanish classes in session, our goal is to incorporate more foreign languages into our curriculum. Let us know what your goals are and we will assist you!
